Johnson' s hat trick helps HSU sink McMurry in men's soccer action

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University fell to 0-7 in American Southwest Conference play Tuesday when Hardin-Simmons took a 3-1 victory over the War Hawks on the campus of HSU. The Cowboys' Zach Johnson scored a hat trick to help down their cross-town rival.
 
Johnson scored off his own rebound in the 14th minute of the contest to help HSU take an early lead. However, McMurry struck back on Everton Pinnock's first goal of the season, which was assisted by Miguel Rodriguez.
 
The teams went into the locker room tied at one at intermission. However, Johnson hit the game-winner in the 62nd minute finishing a header from Chris Hunter. Johnson added his final goal on an assist from Matt Pitcock in the 66th minute.
 
The Cowboys improved to 5-1-1 in league play and 5-3-2 overall. McMurry fell to 1-10 on the season. The War Hawks' Zack Brewer saved seven shots in the losing effort while HSU's Logan Waters recorded two saves in the victory.
 
McMurry has seven matches to spare with its next match Thursday in Shreveport, La. against Centenary College at 6 p.m.
