ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons extended its win streak to 22 games over McMurry with a 21-10 victory in front of a sold-out crowd at McMurry's Wilford Moore Stadium Saturday. The Cowboys scored two rushing touchdowns in the second half and shutout McMurry's offense in the final two quarters to finish the season with a 6-4 record.
The win for HSU helped the Cowboys end the year with a five-game win streak extending its streak to 18-straight winning seasons under head coach Jimmie Keeling. For McMurry, it snapped a four-game win streak and drops the team to 4-5 overall on the season with one game to spare against Louisiana College in Pineville, La. Nov. 14.
McMurry's potent offense, which averaged 370.1 yards per game and 28.5 points per contest, was limited to just 258 yards of offense and its second-lowest point total of the season other than Sept. 26 when it scored just eight points against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Jake Mullin was 28 of 50 passing with 187 yards and two interceptions. Mullin hadn't thrown two interceptions since Sept. 12 in a 30-27 loss to Austin College. Mullin's two interceptions were apart of three total McMurry turnovers;
Marcus Franklin fumbled on McMurry's first offensive play of the second half.
HSU struck first with 4:42 remaining in the first quarter when Justice Baker caught a 7-yard pass from Taylor Bird for the first score of the game and gave the Cowboys a 7-0 lead. The touchdown was set up by Steven Rockwell's 49-yard rush to give HSU a first-and goal situation.
Then, McMurry on its fourth offensive drive with a seven-yard touchdown strike from Mullin to
Delfonte Diamond, his sixth touchdown catch of the season and Mullin's 25th passing touchdown of the season. The score was set up by

Corey Hall. HSU's Curtis Kevil lost the ball when Wallace penetrated into the backfield and gave McMurry the ball at the HSU 12-yard line.
Then, McMurry allowed a Cowboy first down before forcing a punt, and McMurry used an 11-play 41-yard drive capped by a
Jesse Garcia 39-yard field goal with one minute remaining in the second quarter to give McMurry a 10-7 lead.
However, in the second half, McMurry's offense couldn't muster up score and the Cowboy defense limited the home team to just 77 yards in the second half. HSU used its rushing game, which tallied 237 yards on the ground for the game to take the lead in the third quarter with Rockwell's 14-yard touchdown run. Then, Derrick Grant scored from six yards out with 7:07 left in the third for the game's final score.
The McMurry defense forced four punts and the one turnover, and the Cowboys lost one possession on downs. However, McMurry's offense couldn't quite get going and McMurry still hasn't defeated Hardin-Simmons since the 1963 season.
Wallace led the game with 15 tackles in his final home game as a McMurry player. He also has recorded 98 tackles through nine games, which gives him the highest single-season total since McMurry joined the ASC and NCAA in 1996. Wallace passed Colby Witt who had 96 tackles in 2003.
Wallace finished with eight solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and a quarterback hurry. The 21 points that McMurry's defense held HSU to was the lowest total since the 2002 matchup when the Cowboys defeated McMurry 14-6.
Rockwell finished with 24 carries for 160 yards and a touchdown while Grant had 66 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. Defensively for HSU, Jonathan Wise and Roy Gamboa each had seven tackles and Gamboa had a sack.
McMurry will try for its first .500 season since 2005 Saturday against Louisiana College. The kickoff in Pineville, La. is scheduled for 1 p.m. McMurry fell to 4-3 in league play and HSU improved to 4-3 against ASC competition.
The Cowboys will also hold on to the Wilford Moore Trophy another year and since its inception in 1998, HSU hasn't relinquished possession. The rivalry trophy is named after Moore who played at HSU from 1938-40 and was the head coach at McMurry from 1947-54. The 4,650 fans at Wilford Moore Stadium Saturday was a record for a home football game at McMurry.
