Men's Track & Field Crowned 2025 SCAC Champions

SEGUIN, TX – McMurry University led from start to finish and capped its inaugural appearance in the 2025 SCAC Men's Track and Field Championships with a conference title Sunday afternoon on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. 

The War Hawks, competing in their first SCAC track meet, held a comfortable lead throughout the meet and finished with 218 points. Trinity University, the four-time defending champion of the event, finished second with 173 points. Colorado College was third with 124 points.

McMurry first-year Kamryn Cleveland earned SCAC Male Athlete of the Meet honors, earning first place in the 200 meters, second place in the 100 meters, third place in the 110 meter hurdles and long jump and fifth place in the triple jump for 34 total points.

An amazing 10 conference records were established over the course of the weekend on the men's side, including eight on Sunday.

McMurry led the way both in total medals (18) and gold medals (seven). Trinity followed with 13 total medals and TLU and Colorado both had four golds.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • In the javelin, sophomore Bruce Brown placed second with an effort of 57.44 meters (188' 5").
  • Senior Dontre Sinegal, who entered this year's long jump championship with the longest effort in all of Division III this season (7.58 meters), had to settle for silver with a jump of 7.11 meters (23' 4") - which is tied for the seventh-best effort in conference meet history. First-year Kamryn Cleveland  was third with a jump of 6.71 meters (22' 1/4").
  • First-year Kendrick Vanderbilt  took silver in the shot put with an effort of 15.23 meters (49' 11 1/2" - eighth all-time).
  • Following the morning's opening two track events, action returned to the field events where DonTre Sinegal (watch post race interview) garnered top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 15.00 meters (49' 2 1/2"). Sinegal, who entered the meet with the longest effort in Division III this season (15.76 meters), didn't reach that distance but did post the second-best effort in SCAC championship meet history. For Sinegal, it was his third consecutive conference title in the event after having earned gold in the event the last two seasons at the ASC championship meet.
  • McMurry senior Reagan Owen (watch post race interview) capped the day's field events with a massive performance in the hammer throw, shattering the former conference record of 174' 6" set at the 2022 championships. Owen, who was the ASC champion in this event last season, reached 56.17 meters (184' 3") with his toss to establish the new SCAC championship mark by almost 10 feet. Sophomore Daniel Mora finished third with a toss of 47.42 meters (155' 7"). 
  • The SCAC meet record was equaled in the 100 meters prelims, as senior Jacorian Colbert of McMurry tied the conference mark that was set at the 2019 championships with his 10.56 finish.
  • In the field, the men's discus was won by senior Reagan Owen (watch post race interview), who earned top honors with a heave of 147' 9" (45.04 meters). He was joined on the awards stand by teammate first-year Hunter Lackey, who reached 144' 8" (44.10 meters) with his toss.
  • In the pole vault, Junior Leroy Burke finished second with a height of 15' 4 3/4" (4.69 meters).
  • Back to the track, the 4x100 relay kicked off the late morning action and the McMurry foursome of senior Shepherd Miller, senior Jacorian Colbert, junior Griffin Gayler and sophomore Dazhaun Walton (watch post race interview) blazed to a new SCAC championship mark of 40.80, besting the previous record of 40.81 set by the TLU 4x1 relay team just a year ago.
  • Senior DonTre Sinegal (watch post race interview) obliterated the conference record in the 110-meter hurdles and posted the fourth-fastest time in all of Division III with his 13.86 finish. The previous SCAC mark of 14.50 had stood since 2017. Kamryn Cleveland placed third with a time of 15.09.
  • Senior Jacorian Colbert (watch post race interview) pulverized the conference championship mark in the 100 meters, blazing to a 10.32 finish, 0.24 faster than the previous record of 10.56 set at the 2019 championships. Kamryn Cleveland finished second in 10.46.
  • Taking second in the 400 hurdles was sophomore Bruce Brown in 54.42.
  • Kamryn Cleveland  (watch post race interview) put the finishing touches on his amazing inaugural SCAC meet, taking top honors in the 200 meter dash with a winning time of 21.36 - the fourth-fastest in SCAC history.
  • In the final event of the men's program, the 4x400 relay, Colton Esse Dontre Sinegal Jeremiah Rodriguez Griffin Gayler placed third with a 3:16.30 finish.
