McMurry Expands Lead Heading into Final Day of 2025 SCAC Men's Track & Field Championship

SEGUIN, TX - With eight events scored, McMurry University grew its lead from Day One and now has a 27-point lead over four-time defending champion, Trinity University, after Day Two of the 2025 SCAC Men's Track and Field Championship, which is being contested on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.

On Saturday, finals were conducted in five more events, including the field events of the hammer, high jump, triple jump and track events in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 10,000 meters. For the first time in over a decade, the meet's field size precipitated the need for prelims in several track events, which were conducted throughout the afternoon.

The War Hawks picked up their first two golds of the meet and now have a meet-high seven all-SCAC finishes heading into Sunday's final day of competition.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Following the morning's opening two track events, action returned to the field events where McMurry's DonTre Sinegal garnered top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 15.00 meters (49' 2 1/2"). Sinegal, who entered the meet with the longest effort in Division III this season (15.76 meters), didn't reach that distance but did post the second-best effort in SCAC championship meet history, finishing just behind the 49' 3 1/2" that Centre's Chrys Jones achieved the same season he won the individual national championship in the event. For Sinegal, it was his third consecutive conference title in the event after having earned gold in the event the last two seasons at the ASC championship meet.
  • McMurry senior Reagan Owen capped the day's field events with a massive performance in the hammer throw, shattering the former conference record of 174' 6" set by former TLU student-athlete Zachary Herman at the 2022 championships. Owen, who was the ASC champion in this event last season, reached 56.17 meters (184' 3") with his toss to establish the new SCAC championship mark by almost 10 feet. McMurry sophomore Daniel Mora finished third with a toss of 47.42 meters (155' 7").
  • Among the highlights from Saturday's preliminaries, the SCAC meet record was equaled in the 100 meters, as senior Jacorian Colbert of McMurry tied the conference mark that was set at the 2019 championships with his 10.56 finish.
