Suwanee, GA – McMurry lands another two athletes on the SCAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week list for the fifth time this spring.
Kelvin Goston, a first-year from Arlington, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.
Goston threw the discus 49.34 meters to take second place at the Angelo State Invitational. The throw was good for an over 3-meter PR, and he now sits number one in the conference, second in the region, and 22nd in Division III.
Head coach Cody Knight's reaction to Goston's accolades, "Kelvin's worked really hard throughout this season and the improvement in discus is a great reflection of his effort! His PR last week now has him among the top freshmen in D3, and I couldn't be more excited for Kelvin!"
Kendra Humphries, a sophomore from College Station, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20. This is her third appearance as field athlete of the week.
Humphries took second in the shot put at the Angelo State Invitational with a throw of 13.44 meters. This PR keeps her in first place in the conference, third in the region, and 18th in Division III. Humphries also took fourth in the discuss and sixth in the hammer at the meet.
"Not only did Kendra achieve another PR in the shot put, but she also had the greatest six throw series of her career," Coach Knight said. "I'm really impressed in her nationally ranked throws, particularly because Kendra is such a quality thrower in all disciplines. Doing well in each of the throws is something that requires a lot of time and discipline. For her to manage that so well, while also excelling in the classroom is rare! Therefore, I'm really happy for Kendra to receive this recognition!"
