SAN ANTONIO, TX - The McMurry Men's Swimming team completed the demanding three-day Trinity University Tiger Invitational, wrapping up the meet with a solid final day of competition. The War Hawks finished the nine-team field in 7th place overall, accumulating a total of 96 team points across the weekend. The event proved to be an invaluable mid-season test, allowing the men to compete in the challenging preliminary/finals format.

Finals Action: Scalf and Zambrano Score on Sunday

McMurry carried its momentum into the final day's evening session with multiple swimmers qualifying for event finals:

• 100 Yard Freestyle: Wes Scalf continued his excellent meet performance, qualifying for the B-Final and dominating the heat to finish 10th overall with a time of 46.76.

• 200 Yard Backstroke: Victor Zambrano secured a spot in the B-Final, touching in 10th place overall with a time of 1:58.38. This was a key point-scoring swim against a very deep field.

• 200 Yard Butterfly: Zach Lindley qualified for the B-Final in this challenging event, placing 14th overall with a time of 2:07.68.

Endurance Challenge: The 1650 Yard Freestyle

The final day saw the distance swimmers rise to the occasion in the physically demanding 1650 Yard Freestyle (the "mile"), a race that requires immense endurance:

• Freshman Levi Kleen led the War Hawk distance effort, finishing 9th overall with a time of 17:53.56.

• Sophomore Matt Martinez finished right behind him in 10th place with a time of 17:57.46, with their close finish maximizing McMurry's point haul in the event.

• Senior Montgomery Cortez also scored, finishing 12th (18:10.34), followed by Adrian Pena in 14th (18:28.09). This mass of scoring swimmers underscored the team's depth in the distance events.

Final Relay Effort

The team closed out the Invitational in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The 'A' team of Harrison Brown, Sterling Wright, Daniil Kochkonbaev, and Wes Scalf combined for a strong time of 3:18.60 to cap off the successful three-day meet. Other War Hawk relays also finished strong: the 'B' team of Kristopher Cantu, Matt Martinez, Montgomery Cortez, and Victor Zambrano finished in 3:26.94.

The Trinity Invitational provided the McMurry men's team with vital championship experience, allowing them to compete, score points, and measure their progress against top regional programs heading into the winter break.
