ABILENE, TX – The McMurry University men's swimming team closed out its home slate on Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Texas Permian Basin at the Phillips Family Pool. While the Falcons took the team victory with a score of 145-59, the War Hawks celebrated several individual triumphs and season-best marks in their final home appearance of the 2025-26 campaign.
Wes Scalf provided the highlight of the day for McMurry, securing a dominant first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Scalf touched the wall in 58.97, the only swimmer in the field to break the one-minute mark. He followed up that performance with another victory in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:01.34 to lead a field that featured several strong Falcon challengers.
In the distance lanes,
Matt Martinez delivered a strong runner-up performance in the 1000-yard freestyle. Martinez battled through the grueling event to finish with a time of 11:09.26, earning four points for the War Hawks. He also contributed a fourth-place finish later in the meet in the 100-yard butterfly, touching in 1:01.78.
Harrison Brown was a consistent force in the sprint events, grabbing a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.77. Brown also secured a podium spot in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing third behind teammate Scalf with a time of 2:08.45.
Sophomore
Victor Zambrano rounded out the top performers, showcasing his versatility across the middle-distance events. Zambrano claimed third place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.67, narrowly out-touching teammate
Adrian Pena. He also added points in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing fourth in 1:55.65.
The War Hawks capped the afternoon with a competitive showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of
Montgomery Cortez, Pena,
Kristopher Cantu, and
Sterling Wright posted a time of 3:32.89.
