GARLAND, TX – Led by a historic performance from
Wes Scalf, the McMurry University men's swimming team maintained a strong position on day three of the 2026 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships on Friday at the Garland ISD Natatorium.
Scalf delivered the standout moment of the meet for the War Hawks, claiming first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a blazing time of 54.91. Scalf's championship swim not only marked McMurry's first-ever win in the event, but it also stands as the third-fastest time in SCAC Championship history.
The War Hawks also made waves in the relay events, with the 'A' squad grabbing a podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of
Harrison Brown,
Kristopher Cantu,
Montgomery Cortez, and Scalf teamed up to secure third place, touching the wall with a time of 1:27.78.
Victor Zambrano turned in another top-tier performance for McMurry in the 100-yard backstroke. Zambrano claimed fourth place overall in the championship final, clocking a time of 54.19. Meanwhile, in the grueling 400-yard individual medley, Brown battled his way to a fifth-place finish, coming home with a time of 4:20.99.
Through 24 events, the McMurry men's squad sits in third place in the overall team standings with 293 points, trailing only Colorado College and the University of St Thomas.
