McMurry Softball announces 2022 schedule

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball head coach David McNally released the program's 2022 schedule on Monday, which will open its fifth season of competition on Feb. 5, 2022 at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.

The War Hawks, who finished with an 18-14 overall record last spring for its first full winning season, will play 40 games this upcoming campaign. McMurry lost some valuable seniors to graduation this past season, but Coach McNally fully expects the new wave to carry the torch.

"A wise man once told me when you lose your top players, it only gives others the opportunity to step up," McNally said, entering his fifth season as the young program's only head coach. "We are missing some past War Hawks, but with a solid core group coming back, we are excited about the Spring of 2022 and all that will be accomplished. The last few years, we have built a pretty strong foundation, but we have unfinished business that we must defeat this year."

After a pair of non-conference road doubleheaders at Schreiner and Trinity to begin the season, the War Hawks will hold its home opener on Friday, Feb. 11 against Sul Ross State. That weekend will also mark the start of American Southwest Conference play.

McMurry will play 30 conference games, including 10 sets of three-game series against all of its conference opponents. Outside of Sul Ross, other home conference series include LeTourneau (March 4-5), UT Dallas (March 25-26), Belhaven (April 1-2) and Howard Payne (April 22-23).

From March 4-15, the War Hawks will host nine games at recently-built Edwards Field. Following the three-game series with LeTourneau, McMurry will host non-conference doubleheaders against Austin College (March 9), Fontbonne University (March 12) and the University of St. Thomas out of Houston (March 15).

Another series of note takes place April 8-9 as the War Hawks play across town at Hardin-Simmons for the cross town showdown.

The ASC Championship Tournament will involve the top eight teams in the standings and takes place May 5-7. The regular season champion will earn the top seed and hosting rights. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
