GEORGETOWN, TX – The McMurry War Hawks faced Concordia on Thursday evening at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University. The game had an eventful start, as McMurry's offense exploded in the top of the 1st inning. Trista Brown doubled down the left field line, driving in Mercedes Camacho and Angelina Kulbeth to give McMurry an early 2-0 lead. Tristyn Barton followed with another double, bringing Reaghan Staehely and Maya Mongelli home, increasing the lead to 4-0. Aliyah Tanguma capped off the inning with a double to left field, scoring Tristyn Barton and Maya Mongelli, making it 6-0.
Play was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain and lightning and postponed until Friday morning. When play resumed, Concordia got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
In the top of the 4th inning, Maya Mongelli hit a solo home run to center field, extending McMurry's lead to 7-1.
Concordia added a run in the 5th and 6th innings, trimming McMurry's lead to 7-3.
McMurry added an unearned run in the top of the 7th inning when Morgan Mehaffey scored on an error, bringing the final score to 8-3.
Baylee Fulps pitched a complete game for McMurry, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.
The War Hawks will have a quick turnaround, facing Texas Lutheran back at Taylor-Sanders Field at 12:30 p.m.
