Women’s Soccer sets new record with seven all-conference honorees

RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry Women's Soccer had seven scholar-athletes earn postseason honors from American Southwest Conference on Wednesday, setting a new program record for most all-conference selections in a single season.

Seniors Kate Holland and Meriah Sikora headlined the list as first team all-conference members. Fellow seniors Hallie Rutherford and Ashland Hansen were second team selections. Sophomores McKenna Standifer and Cortlynn Boone joined freshman Grace Singleton as honorable mentions.

Holland is now a three-time selection for postseason awards, earning an honorable mention in 2018 and second team honors in 2019. The defender scored two goals and had two assists for six points, starting all 14 games and ranking among the team leaders in minutes before suffering a season-ending injury. She also served as a team captain this season.

Sikora became the first McMurry player to earn four straight seasons of all-conference selections today, landing first team honors for the first time in her career. Sikora was an honorable mention in 2018 and earned back-to-back second team honors in 2019 and for the Spring 2021 season. This year, the midfielder led the team in assists (seven), points (15) and minutes played (1,563). She also had four goals this season and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Rutherford tied for the team lead with six goals, while adding one assist for 13 points. She started all 19 games and took a team-high 35 shots with 21 on frame. She had two goals in a 4-0 win over Schreiner and added one goal and one assist in a 4-0 win over Howard Payne in conference play.

Hansen ranked second on the team with 1,473 minutes and started 18 games. She missed just nine minutes in the final nine games, only coming out for the final nine minutes of a 4-0 win. She finished with four goals and three assists on the season, while also making both of McMurry's regular season penalty kick attempts. Hansen capped her season with a spot on the all-tournament team.

Standifer was one of seven players to log over 1,000 minutes for McMurry this season, proving to be a valuable defender. She made three goals on just five shots, all of which came in shutout wins. Speaking of shutouts, Standifer was a key part of a backline that recorded 10 shutouts and allowed just 0.89 goals per game.

Despite being part of a busy timeshare in between the pipes, Boone emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in the conference when tasked to go the distance. She had 17 appearances with 14 starts, including the final 11 starts of the season, and recorded six solo shutouts. Boone was a two-time ASC Defensive Player of the Week in 2021, becoming the first McMurry goalie to win it twice in a season. Her most notable performances came late in the season, leading McMurry to a 1-0 shutout of eventual-ASC champion Hardin-Simmons with seven saves to close the regular season. She also shut out Howard Payne in the ASC Quarterfinals, forcing penalty kicks and allowing McMurry to advance to the semifinals.

Singleton was the only true freshman to make the list for McMurry, landing an honorable mention. The rookie defender played in 17 games with 10 starts, starting nine of the final 10 games. She played significant minutes in nine shutouts for the team this season, including 70 minutes in the 1-0 shutout of Hardin-Simmons to close the regular season.
