SHERMAN, Texas – The McMurry University swimming teams opened their respective seasons with a split against Austin College this past Saturday in Sherman, Texas.
Earning the win for the War Hawks was men's swimming with a score of 163-91.
"I was happy with the effort, and I see many opportunities for improvement in our techniques," said first year head coach
Arthur Wang. "We will strive to improve each practice and swim meet moving forward."
Riding off a 4-0 regular season record from last season's unconventional spring campaign, the men tacked on their fifth straight dual win of 2021.
Earning the first top finish on the day for the men was freshman
Matthew Schloz. Schloz finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:15.83. Later in in the day, Scholz would also tag first in the 500-yard free at 5:26.32.
McMurry then went on to claim the top three spots in the 50-yard backstroke, with
Bryce Borak leading the pack for a first-place finish. Borak tagged in at 27.41, while
Alec Feldhousen and
Adrien Tcherdakoff would follow in 31.58 and 35.36, respectively.
Freshman
Caleb Bush earned a first-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.51. He later earned first in the 1000-yard breast as well (1:03.93).
Sophomore
Logan Pritchett finished first in the 50-yard free at 27.63, just .08 seconds ahead of Borak who came in second.
The 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard Individual Medley was topped by
Isaiah Narvaez with times of 1:01.06 and 2:14.88.
On the women's side, the 'Roos would claim the matchup with 157 points to McMurry's 92. Despite the end result, the War Hawks posted solid finishes in several events.
Freshman standout
Lorin Mow earned a top finish in the 200-yard free in 2:09.96, besting two 'Roos in the event. She then went on to earn top finishes in the 100-yard fly (1:08.93) and the 100-free (1:00.43).
Senior
Kristina Sullivan swam a career best in the 1000-yard free, finishing with a time of 11:34.92 to earn second. She also earned a top podium finish in the 500-free (5:45.89).
Junior
Maddie Smith showed great effort with a second-place finish in the 50-back, tagging in at 32.81.
McMurry swimming will be back in action on Oct. 30 in a dual matchup against Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.
