GEORGETOWN, Texas - McMurry's swimming teams came out on the short end of a dual meet at Southwestern University's Walzel Natatorium. The Pirates ambushed the War Hawks women's team by a 136-86 score, while the men lost to SU, 164-92.
On the women's side, sophomore
Robyn Remschel won three individual events, while swimming the anchor leg on McM's winning 200 freestyle relay quartet. Remschel took top honors in the 50-yard backstroke (28.82) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.62), while also leading a 1-2 McM finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.32)
Katie Gorka was second in the 500 freestyle (6:09.93) and also won the 1000-yard freestyle (12:29.58).
Kelly McNamee was the runner-up to Remschel in the 100 backstroke (1:05.28), while also placing second in the 200 freestyle (2:13.34).
Joining Remschel and McNamee on the 200 freestyle relay team were
Zandria Rodriguez and
Kelsey Hill. The unit posted a time of 1:48.25.
Hill also garnered a second in the 100 freestyle and
Samantha Spain a third place in the 50 freestyle.
Monica Flores was McMurry's other winner, taking gold in the 200 individual medley (2:30.34).
For the War Hawks' men's team, freshman
Jerick Pena had a pair of race victories individually, as well as leading a relay win in the 200 freestyle relay (along with
Craig Bell,
Kamron Salinas and
Kent Grimes). Pena won the men's 200 individual medley in a time of 2:06.07 and led a sweep of the 50-freestyle (27.41), with teammates Grimes (28.17) and
Patrick Oyston (29.26) touching in second and third, respectively.
Grimes also grabbed silver in the 100 backstroke (58.49) and Oyston was second in the 500 freestyle (5:40.60).
Zach Tassin was the runner-up in the 50 breaststroke.
Salinas was McM's only other event winner with a first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.86).
