Swimmers Close Regular Season with Austin

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's swim team split its results versus Austin College, winning the women's contest, 104-93, and losing the men's results, 113-103, at the Phillips Family Center. The War Hawk women had eight event winners, while the men took top honors in five events.
 
On the women's side, freshman Robyn Remschel won two individual events and with one relay.  Remschel improved to 10-0 in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.09 minutes, with teammate Kelly McNamee finishing second in the race (1:07.70). Remschel also won the 50 freestyle in a clocking of 26.07 seconds and swam the lead leg on McM's winning 200 medley relay (1:58.56).
 
Fellow freshman Zandria Rodriguez – who was second to Remschel in the 50 freestyle (26.57) – won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.91).  Rodriguez swam the second leg on the 200 medley relay, as well as the third leg of the 200 freestyle relay which also won for McM.
 
Junior Samantha Spain took first in the 100-yard freestyle (58.69), while picking up individual second places in both the 200 freestyle (2:14.03) and the 100 breaststroke (1:21.78).  She also anchored the 200 freestyle relay victory.
 
McNamee was also the 200 freestyle winner at 2:11.84 minutes and had the lead leg of the 200 free relay quartet. Kelsey Frazier was second in the 100-yard butterfly, as well as swimming on both winning relays.
 
Sophomore Amber Garrett won the marathon 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:14.84 minutes. Garrett was second in the 500 freestyle (5:53.27). She also had the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay.
 
In the men's competition, Kamron Salinas, a junior, was a double individual winner. Salinas won the 200-yard individual medley by touching at 2:05.34 minutes and to 100 breaststroke at 1:03.11. He also swam the second leg of the War Hawks' winning 200 medley relay (1:42.33).
 
Freshman Vince Crosby got the "W" in the 100 butterfly (54.86 seconds) and was second in the 500 freestyle (5:29.73). Crosby had leg No. 3 of the 200 medley relay win.
 
Junior Kent Grimes not only brought home the win in the 200 medley relay by swimming the anchor leg, but also picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:49.68). He was also second in the 200 backstroke (57.57).
 
David Bowers, a senior, was runner-up in the 50 freestyle (23.44) and took the lead leg on the 200 medley relay.
 
McMurry will close its season on February 12-14 at the SCAC championships in Rockwall.
