War Hawks Swimming Sunk by UT-Permian Basin

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's swimming teams both lost decision to a tough University of Texas-Permian Basin team on Friday evening. The War Hawk women (1-1) lost by a 108-66 count, while the men (0-2) fell 158-47.

The lone McM victories in events all came from the women's squad. Individually, in the 100 backstroke, freshman Kelly McNamee (Colleyville, Texas) took top honors in a time of 1:03.51 minutes. McNamee also garnered a second place in the 200 freestyle.

In the grueling 500 yard freestyle, junior Shannon Samples (Duncanville, Texas) won in a clocking of 6:39.49.

The War Hawks 200 freestyle relay quartet of Samantha Spain, Kelsey Frazier, Sarah Hernandez and Emma Donaldson touched first in a time of 1:46.94.

Hernandez also had a second place in the 50 freestyle and a third in the 100 free. Donaldson was second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley.

Spain was third in the 50 freestyle, while Frazier took third in the 100 butterfly.

On the men's side of things, the War Hawks' best finish was a second place in the 100 backstroke from junior David Bowers (League City, Texas). Bowers finished in a time of 57.64 seconds.

Teammate Kent Grimes (Ft. Worth, Texas), a sophomore, was third in the 100 backstroke (58.92), as well as third in the 200 individual medley (2:12.05). 

Senior Cameron Sikes (Clebourne, Texas) had a pair of third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle races (23.03 and 53.89, respectively).  Freshman Justin Aravanage (Temple, Texas) was third in the men's 100 breaststroke (1:05.22).
