Men's Soccer Falls to TAMIU, 3-2

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry men's soccer team was handed a tough 3-2 loss at the hands of Texas A&M International on Saturday afternoon in Abilene.

McMurry struck first in the early goings as Antoine Freitas, Jr. used a throw in to find the back of the net. After the ball was kicked around by a few different players, Freitas capitalized when the ball came to him, as he beat the keeper to give McMurry the 1-0 just four minutes in.

TAMIU would come back in the 21st minute when Diego Manzano-Cano used a pass from Adrian Elicerio to beat the keeper from the left of the box to tie the game at one. The two would quickly hook up again just two minutes later. This time, Elicerio was the beneficiary of a Manzano-Cano pass and he snuck the ball past goalie Neil O'Sullivan to give the Dustdevils the 2-1 lead.

Just three minutes before the end of the half, TAMIU would add one more score. A cross from Arturo Guiterrez found the head of Robert Dominguez who placed the ball in the net to give TAMIU the 3-1 halftime lead.

The War Hawks would not go away in the second half. At the 53 minute mark, a foul called on the Dustdevils' goal keeper allowed Mike Moon to take a penalty shot, which he calmly put away to cut the TAMIU lead in half at 3-2. However, the War Hawks could get no closer and fell by the same score.

McMurry was led by Freitas and Moon who each scored a goal apiece. For Freitas, the score was his first in a McMurry uniform, where as Moon added his first goal of the season to go along with his two assists.

The War Hawks will be back in action on Thursday, October 4 when the host the Jets of Newman University. The contest at Edwards Field is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
