AUSTIN, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer team fell by score of 2-0 to Heartland Conference foe St. Edward's University on Saturday afternoon.
The Hilltoppers struck first early in the first half as Daniel Riley connected from 16 yards out to beat keeper
Neil O'Sullivan in the ninth minute, to give St. Edward's the 1-0 lead. Riley connected once again 18 minutes later as he scored on a header from a corner kick to expand the lead to 2-0. The teams would go into the half with the War Hawks trailing by the same score.
In the second half of play, neither team was able to put a ball in the net as the game finished with the Hilltoppers taking the 2-0 decision.
Throughout the game the War Hawks offense was halted as McMurry was unable to register a shot on goal and was outshot 23-3 over the course of the day. O'Sullivan saw 23 shots on the day while making eight saves in goal.
McMurry will be back in action on Thursday, September 27 when the St. Mary's University Rattlers come to Edwards Field to take on the War Hawks. The game is scheduled for a four p.m. kickoff.
