AUSTIN, Texas – The McMurry University swim team gave an excellent performance, splitting a dual meet with Austin College on Friday. The War Hawks men won an overwhelming 141-70 decision, while the women's team dropped a close 99-72 count.
McM's men hit the pool like a tsunami, posting victories in 10 of the meet's 11 swimming events versus AC.
Luis Aguilar,
Dalton Walker and
Kamron Salinas each were double individual winners. Aguilar and Salinas also swam on McM's quartet in the 200 medley relay.
McMurry also won the 200 freestyle relay event.
Aguilar won the 200 freestyle individual race in a time of 1:52.29 minutes. Aguilar took first in the 100 butterfly (:54.66) as well, with teammate
Craig Bell in second place.
Salinas took top honors in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:04.83, out-distancing fellow War Hawk
Kent Grimes in second. Salinas won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.33), as McM went 1-2 in the event, with Taylor Bean the runner-up.
Grimes also earned a first place individually in the 100 freestyle (:50.99).
Walker was the team's workhorse, taking home gold in both the grueling 500 freestyle (5:13.45) and 1000 freestyle (10:38.40) events.
K.C. Steblein was to War Hawks other event victor, swimming a time of 22.95 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Steblein wan an impressive 1 ½ seconds better than the second place finisher from AC.
On the women's side of the action,
Samantha Spain and Lauren Noble were both double winners for the War Hawks. Spain's wins came in the 100 freestyle (1:00.31) and 200 freestyle (2:11.87).
Noble won the marathon 500 freestyle (5:46.48) and 1000 freestyle (11:52.30) races.
Emma Donaldson was victorious in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:17.21 minutes.
