EDMOND, Okla. – If once is good, twice is better. At least McMurry's
Sam Black and
Jordan Miller think so. The two players connected on two separate goals that helped the McMurry University men's soccer team defeat Oklahoma Christian 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
In the first half, the War Hawks got on the board first when Miller found Black who placed the ball in the back of the net in the 15
th minute to give McMurry the 1-0 lead. The teams would go into the half by the same score as keeper
Neil O'Sullivan kept the Eagles out of the net, making three saves in the frame.
In the 53
rd minute, Miller found Black for the second time in the contest as they combined for the second goal of the game, and the 2-0 lead. Oklahoma Christian would come back in the 73
rd minute when Sam Guernsey found the net to cut the lead at 2-1. However, the Eagles would get no closer and the War Hawks took the 2-1 victory.
With the win, the War Hawks totaled seven victories on the season, which is just one less than the previous five seasons combined (program totaled eight wins between 2007-2011). McMurry also earned their second season-sweep of an opponent this season having beaten Oklahoma Christian 1-0 earlier in the year (also took both games from Dallas Baptist this season.)
