Swimming Breaks the Ice for 2012-13 Season

ODESSA, Texas – After two weather-related delays, the McMurry swimming teams finally got the 2012-13 season underway at UT-Permian Basin on Thursday afternoon. The  War Hawk men were defeated by a 151 ½ to 53 ½ margin, while the women fell by a score of 165-29.

For the McM men's squad, Kameron Salinas notched a pair of second place finishes in both the 200 individual medley (2:06.12) and in the 100 backstroke (1:02.33). Luis Aguilar and Chandler Gaspard place third and fourth, respectively, behind Salinas in the 200 IM.

Aguilar was also second in the 100 butterfly (54.98). Gaspard notched a 3rd place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:16.95).

Other top finishes included a second from Dalton Walker in the 500 freestyle (5:16.90), while Craig Bell was third in the 100 butterfly (56.57). Taylor Bean garnered a third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.06) and Nicholas Alvarez a third in the grueling 1,000 freestyle (10:51.08).

On the women's side, freshman Samantha Spain was second in the 100 freestyle (1:00.00) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:10.61).

Emma Donaldson was second in the 100 backstroke (1:16.93). Teammate Lauren Noble finished second in the long race of the day – the 1,000 freestyle (11:55.40) – and was third in the 200 individual medley (2:27.48).

McMurry will next be in action on October 26-27 at the Hendrix College Invitational in Conway, Ark.
