Women's Track & Field Take Second at 2025 SCAC Championships

SEGUIN, TX – McMurry University made a strong statement in its first SCAC championship appearance. After battling Trinity University for the top spot through the first two days of competition, McMurry finished second overall with 163.5 points. Trinity University ultimately captured the 2025 SCAC Women's Track and Field Championship, earning their ninth title in 10 years and 17th overall on Sunday afternoon at Texas Lutheran University.

After two days of a back-and-forth battle with SCAC newcomer McMurry University for the top spot on the leaderboard, the Tigers' depth proved to be the deciding factor and Trinity finished the meet with 191 points, 27.5 points clear of McMurry who ended their first SCAC championship with 163.5 points.

McMurry sophomore Kendra Humphries earned SCAC Female Athlete of the Meet honors, earning first place in both the shot put and javelin and sixth place in both the discus and hammer for 26 points.

Seven conference records were established over the course of the weekend, including five on Sunday.

McMurry finished with 15 medals, including the most gold with seven.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Sophomore Kendra Humphries (watch post race interview) made her SCAC championship meet debut and earned gold in the shot put with a toss of 13.07 meters (42' 10 1/2") - the second-longest throw in SCAC meet history. Sophomore Tori Colman  was third with a throw of 11.72 meters (38' 5 1/2").
  • Humphries (watch post race interview) made it two-for-two, taking top honors in the javelin with a toss of 37.68 meters (123' 7"). With the victory, Humphries became the first woman since 2021 and just the third all-time to sweep the shot put and javelin at the same conference championship meet. 
  • Junior Savanna Danner (watch post race interview) took top honors in the 3,000 steeplechase, crossing the line in a time of 11:41.22. Junior Madison Soultanova  finished third with a time of 12:10.20.
  • After the initial two track events, action returned to the field where senior Elizabeth Cunningham (watch post race interview) took top honors in the hammer throw, pitching the apparatus 46.81 meters (153' 7") - the seventh-longest toss in SCAC championship meet history. Cunningham had won the hammer event in her previous two appearances at the ASC championship meet. Her teammate, sophomore Tori Colman, took silver with a toss of 46.67 meters (153' 1").
  • Sophomore Kylie Flippin (watch post race interview) kept the War Hawks' dominance in the field events rolling, earning gold in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters (5' 1 3/4").
  • In the pole vault, sophomore Brenna Stell (watch post race interview) cleared 12' 3 1/4" (3.74 meters), winning gold and establishing a new SCAC championship meet record in the process. The former mark of 12' 2 3/4" had been set at the 2019 meet. McMurry teammate, first-year Madeline Sumien, took silver with a clearance of 11' 5" (3.48 meters).
  • Sophomore Tori Colman (watch post race interview) earned top podium honors in the discus, taking down another SCAC meet record in the process. Colman reached 142' 1" (43.30 meters) with her winning toss, eclipsing the former conference meet record of 139' 7", which was set in 2014.
  • With the completion of the field events, the competition returned to the track in the late morning, with the first relay of the meet bringing the best 4x100 teams to the blocks. McMurry's team of Naj Campbell Brenna Stell Madelyn Gollihar Brynn Yanez finished third with a time of 49.01.
  • Senior Naj Campbell placed second by one hundredth of a second,14.16, in the 100 meter hurdles. Freshman Annikah Frank finished third in a time of 14.81.
  • Naj Campbell finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.57.
