SAN ANTONIO, TX - The McMurry Women's Swimming team opened the Trinity University Tiger Invitational on Friday, facing a deep and fast field of competitors. The War Hawks showed their competitive spirit, securing points in the individual events and posting solid times in the relays, laying the groundwork for a challenging and productive weekend.
Individual Performance: Lizcano Puts Points on the Board
Leading the charge in the individual events was Brooklynn Lizcano, who secured the team's only point-scoring finals appearance of the day.
In the 200 Yard Individual Medley, Lizcano qualified for the 'B' Final and raced to a 15th-place finish with a time of 2:23.14, demonstrating her consistent speed in the medley events.
The War Hawks also had strong showings in the distance and sprint events:
- In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Natalie Liles posted a competitive time of 5:53.64 in the preliminary heats.
- Nicole Ryman competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle, swimming a 28.32 in the prelims, providing valuable experience in a crowded sprint field.
Relay Highlights: Gaining Experience Against Fast Competition
The War Hawks' relay teams competed hard in both events, gaining valuable experience against some of the region's fastest squads.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the 'A' team of Natalie Liles, Emilee Thompson, Nicole Ryman, and Brooklynn Lizcano placed 14th with a time of 1:52.43.
The night concluded with the 400 Yard Medley Relay. The 'A' squad, composed of Nicole Ryman (Backstroke), Brooklynn Lizcano (Breaststroke), Natalie Liles (Butterfly), and Emilee Thompson (Freestyle), finished in 13th place with a time of 4:44.87.
The War Hawks Women's team looks forward to Day 2 of the Invitational, where they will continue to push for season-best times and battle for position against tough competition.
