ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks closed out their two-day dual meet at home against the University of St. Thomas with another outstanding display of team effort and individual brilliance. The Women's team secured a second consecutive victory, 81-76, against a tough opponent, driven by multiple wins from their top athletes. The Men's team battled hard for a second-place finish, 119-82, highlighted by a pivotal relay win and a season-best performance from sophomore Wes Scalf.
Women's Team Highlights: Individual Wins Clinch the Dual
The Women's team sealed the dual meet win with a powerful performance on Day Two, leaning on their event specialists to rack up key first-place finishes.
In the distance events, Natalie Liles solidified her status as a standout, claiming the grueling 1650 Yard Freestyle title. Liles didn't stop there, also racing to a win in the 100 Yard Freestyle, securing two crucial victories for the War Hawks.
Brooklynn Lizcano was equally dominant, showcasing her versatility in the Individual Medley events by taking first place in the 400 Yard IM. She followed up that performance with a win in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, adding a pair of major event victories to the team's score.
The momentum continued with Nicole Ryman, who swam a decisive race to win the 200 Yard Freestyle. Ryman's victory ensured the War Hawks picked up first-place points across multiple event groups, demonstrating the team's deep talent pool.
Men's Team Highlights: Scalf's Blistering Anchor Leg
The War Hawk Men's team showed heart and speed in several competitive races throughout the day.
The most exciting win of the meet came early, as Wes Scalf anchored the victorious 200 Yard Medley Relay team. Scalf delivered a blistering 21.57 split on the final freestyle leg, powering his teammates to the first-place finish. Scalf wasn't done, as he went on to win the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a season-best time of 58.63, capping off a fantastic weekend of swimming for the sophomore.
The men's team rounded out the scoring with strong finishes across the event board, proving their strength in depth as they worked to secure their second-place team finish. Their ability to secure a major relay win and multiple individual first-place finishes against a strong opponent is a testament to the team's commitment and competitive spirit as they wrap up the home dual meet.
