ABILENE – McMurry University's
Timothy Leatherman became the university's first American Football Coaches Association All-American since 2015 when the group named him a first-team selection on Tuesday.
Leatherman is the fourth McMurry football player to win the award, joining Randy Roemisch (1974), Ricky Nolly (1980) and Ryan Williams (2015).
A senior from Ingram, Leatherman had four interceptions and returned three of those for touchdowns. He had five pass break-ups. He registered 51 tackles, including five tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. Leatherman twice was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week and was a first-team All-SCAC selection.
"All of us in our building could not be more proud of Tim Leatherman," said McMurry head coach
Jordan Neal. "This guy has worked his tail off since the day he arrived in Abilene, and he has developed so much as a leader and as a person it's hard to quantify. Tim is certainly a great football and worthy of this incredibly special honor, but his lasting impact and legacy will be his influence in turning around a once fledgling program into a winner. Congratulations Tim!"
