ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Track & Field competed in its first midweek meet of the season on Wednesday, trekking across town for Abilene Christian University's Oliver Jackson Twilight at Elmer Gray Stadium.
The women posted five season bests, while the No. 23 ranked men added 10. A handful of athletes also had lifetime personal bests.
This meet serves as a tune-up for McMurry as it prepares for the American Southwest Conference Championships in Jackson, Mississippi next week.
Other schools in the meet include ACU, North Texas, Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, Midwestern State, South Plains, UT-Tyler Texas A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M, and neighboring Hardin-Simmons, among others.
RESULTS
Track Highlights:
- Junior Kelby Tidwell set the first of her two personal records in the women's 200, placing third out of 22 runners with a time of 26.83. Her freshman teammate Najwa Campbell placed eighth at 27.59 for her personal best.
- Sophomore Jayden Sloan continued his run of greatness with a time of 48.80 in the 400 meter dash, placing fourth in a field of 44 runners. He won his heat and trailed just two NCAA Division I runners and a Western Texas College runner for the podium. He remains fourth in the region and first in the American Southwest Conference.
- Senior Michael Limones ran in the same heat as Sloan, finishing 14th in the deep field with a time of 49.95. He ranks 18th in the region with this new season high.
- Nandhi Brown finished second in her heat with a time of 15.41 in the 100 meter hurdles. She remains sixth in the region for the 100 hurdles at a time of 15.12.
- Senior Jacob Williams set a new 800 personal best with a time of 2:05.50. Freshman teammate Abram Maldonado finished slightly ahead of him at 2:04.62.
- The women's 4x100 ran its fastest time of the season on Wednesday, clocking a time of 50.77 to rank 12th in the region. The relay team includes Nandhi Brown, Najwa Campbell, Losuria Webb-Barber and Jada Morris.
- Sophomore Sara Walters had a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:39.37, an event she has now run six times this season.
Field Highlights:
- Sophomore Sutton Welch achieved back-to-back personal records in the hammer throw, slightly eclipsing last week's throw with a mark of 44.85m. He ranks ninth in the region. Teammate Alpha Roberts also set a PR with a mark of 40.39m to rank 25th in the region.
- Junior Kelby Tidwell also PR'ed in the triple jump to complete a strong meet, leaping at 10.51m. She ties freshman teammate Losuria Webb-Barber in the regional rankings at 17th.
- Sophomore Jermond Lovely now ranks 13th regionally in the long jump with a mark of 6.67m. This new personal high helped him finish eighth in the meet.
- Sophomore Corbin Stulir had a new personal best in the javelin, improving her mark to 35.08 meters. At the meet, she finished in the top half of the field in eighth place and second in her flight.
- Sophomore Jayden Gonzales had his best pole vault performance of the season on Wednesday, but slightly missed a PR on three attempts at 4.55m. He cleared at 4.40m. Teammate Rylan Rogers had a clearance of 4.20m and has a current season best at 4.41m.
- Sophomore Ellie Ryan had good marks in the discus and hammer at 35.58m and 38.55m, respectively. She remains in the top 10 regionally for both events, setting both season highs in San Antonio.
