ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University men's tennis won its second-consecutive match, earning a 7-2 American Southwest Conference West Division road victory at Sul Ross State University. The War Hawks improved to 6-11 overall (3-1 ASC West), while the Lobos fell to 0-12 (0-4 ASC West).
The No. 1 doubles team of
Carlos Martinez and
Andrew Hallowell improved to a team-best 9-7 record by topping SRSU's Ryan Ray and Juan Samaguey, 8-2. No. 2 doubles was handled by the War Hawks' tandem of
Clayton Pope and
Travis Gough, 8-5, over Christopher Moochen and Kyle Ferguson. McM made it 3-0 in the team score by also taking third doubles, 8-3, behind the efforts of
Thierry Tchenko and
Logan Daniell versus SRSU's Nathaniel Boatright and Caleb Diller.
McMurry took four of six singles matches en route to the team win.
At No. 1 singles, Martinez won his ninth-consecutive singles match and improved to 12-3 overall, topping Samaguey 6-3, 6-1. During his win skein, Martinez has not lost a set (dating back to February 25).
The War Hawks took the Nos. 3-5 contests, as well. At third singles, Tchenko won a tough first set 7-6 (7-5) versus Moochien, before winning set two, 6-4. Daniell split sets with SRSU's Ferguson – winning the first 6-1 and losing the second 6-2 – before coming back to win set three, 6-2. McM's
