McM Tennis Ambushed by Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The McMurry University tennis teams both suffered non-conference road losses at Southwestern University on Saturday. The War Hawk men fell by an 8-1 score, while the women's team was defeated by the Pirates, 9-0.

In the men's match, the lone victory of the day for McMurry came from Rayce Roberson at No. 2 singles. Roberson won a three-set marathon over SU's Nick Farmer, taking set one, 7-6 (7-4 in the tie breaker). Roberson dropped set two, 6-4, but bounced back to win the third set, 11-9.

At No. 3 singles, Hunter Ward lost a tough three-setter, as well. Ward lost the first set, 6-3, and took the second, 6-4.  In the pro-set third, Ward was defeated 13-11.

McM lost the balance of the singles matches in straight sets.

The War Hawk women did not fare well, either.  McM lost all three doubles bouts and the Nos. 1-5 singles contests in straight sets.  At No. 6 singles, freshman Zayra Gomez lost a 5-7, 6-0, 10-4 match.
