ABILENE, Texas – McMurry men's tennis snapped a two-match skid and returned to the .500 level with a 7-2 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The victory improved the War Hawks to 9-9 overall.
The Crusaders fell to 4-8.
A 3-0 start in the team score after doubles put McMurry on the road to the win.
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward won an 8-3 decision at No. 1 pairs, improving their team record to 10-8 on the year. At No. 2 doubles,
Rayce Roberson and Ethan Rodriguez were also 8-3 victors.
The duo of
Kie Jones and
Travis Gough won for the War Hawks at third doubles.
In singles, Roberson took No. 2 over UNHB's Alex Mackellar, 6-0, 6-4, and
Clayton Pope dominated at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3. Roberson is tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins in 2016.
Kie Jones and
Kendal Mann won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Jones won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 and Mann by a 6-2, 6-0 tally.
The War Hawks close out the regular season on Saturday at 10 a.m. at home versus Concordia University-Texas.
