ORLANDO, Fla. – McMurry's men's tennis team dropped its second-consecutive match on its current Florida trip, falling by a 5-4 score to Aquinas College (Mich.). The loss left the War Hawks with a record of 6-4 on the year.
The Saints improved to 8-3 overall.
The War Hawks started the day in good fashion by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Dani Perez and
Casjen Rico teamed up to win No. 1 doubles, 8-4, over AC's Kristoff Saari and Gunnar Peery.
Tom Weir and
Rayce Roberson won by an identical 8-4 score at No. 3 doubles, defeating Will Buurma and Ryan Fedewa, giving McM a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Aquinas got all five of its team points in the singles competition. McMurry's singles wins came at No. 2 and No. 5 from Rico and
Carlos Perez.
Rico improved his personal record to 8-3 in singles by defeating the Saints' Andy Struble in three sets. Rico took set 1 by a 7-5 score, but dropped the second set, 3-6. In the third set, Rico won, 10-6.
Perez also took three sets to defeat his foe, Evan Taylor. Perez lost the first set, 2-6, and then battled back to claim the next two sets, 6-1, 10-2.
