Football Finale on Saturday vs. Southern Nazarene

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University will close out the 2013 football season on Saturday (Nov. 16) when it plays host to Southern Nazarene University. Kickoff at Wilford Moore Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.

The War Hawks (2-8) will be trying to win their second-consecutive game as it closes the books on its second season in the transition to NCAA Division II and looks ahead to Lone Star Conference membership in 2014. Conversely, the Crimson Storm (0-10) is winless, having played all 10 games, thus far, versus Great American Conference teams.

"It's always a big deal," said McM head coach Mason Miller about the possibility of ending the season with two-consecutive victories. "It helps us a lot. It lets us know where we need to be and what we have to do.

"The kids know that, too. A lot of them are already chattering now about what they need to do to be successful in the future."

Last Saturday, the War Hawks marched through Wayland Baptist like Sherman through Atlanta, rolling to a 42-9 halftime lead and an eventual 56-29 win over the Pioneers. 20 of WBU's came in the fourth period with matters well in hand. McM left Wayland Baptist in their statistical wake, amassing 590 yards of total offense and a 6.6 yards per play average.

In the only other meeting between the teams in 2012, McMurry defeated SNU.  In a see-saw battle played in Grand Prairie, Texas, McMurry came out on top, 22-19. The game was not decided until the final tics had come off of the clock, when SNU could not convert on a fourth-and-goal from the McMurry three-yard line. The War Hawks' Paxton Grayer carried 18 times for a career-best 158 yards rushing and scored all three McMurry touchdowns in the game.

McMurry comes having lost to three NCAA Division I FCS teams and five Lone Star Conference foes. The War Hawks defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State and topped Wayland Baptist University, 56-29, last Saturday.

SNU quarterback Dylan Terry has thrown for 1,178 yards and five touchdowns. Terry has completed 130-of-238 passes. Brian Yenor (550 yards) has led the Crimson Storm's ground attack.

SNU linebacker Blake Cavill has amassed 94 tackles to lead his team. Fellow linebacker Matthew Gregg has 74 tackles on the year.

The War Hawks' offense has been high-flying thus far in 2013, averaging a nifty 508.2 yards per game. Piloting the aerial attack has been freshman quarterback Gabe Rodriguez, who last week set the McM season touchdown passes record - now at 37 – surpassing Jake Mullin's mark of 35 set in 2010. Rodriguez has thrown for 2,735 yards (despite starting just seven games this season), completing 220-of-367 pass attempts.

In last week's win at WBU, junior receiver Greg Livingston had three TD receptions (all in the first half) to tie McMurry's season TD receptions record with 15 scoring grabs this season.

Livingston has 1,049 yards receiving, just 83 yards shy of breaking the school's season mark. Fellow receiver Jeret Smith has 831 receiving yards, giving the duo 1,880 receiving yards. The pair needs 63 receiving yards between them to become the most prolific season receiving tandem in school history

McMurry's backfield mates of Grayer (781 yards) and Chris Simpson (758 yards) has led the War Hawks' rushing attack. The duo has accounted for 13 of the team's 14 rushing touchdowns.

George Adams and Cory Pippen each have three interceptions on the season. Pippen had a 25-yard interception return for a score in last week's game.
