SEQUIN, Texas - McMurry's men's basketball team will be looking to stop its three game losing streak against the same team which started it, Texas Lutheran University, when the teams meet on Saturday afternoon. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
The War Hawks (13-7, 9-7 ASC) have slipped into a fourth place tie in the ASC West Division standings. As if it was even needed, the game at TLU takes on even more significance because the Bulldogs (9-11, 8-8 ASC) are in sixth in the conference nipping at McM's heels. Only the top four teams make the ASC post-season tournament.
Thursday's tough loss at Schreiner saw McMurry struggle early in the second half when the Mountaineers went on a 14-0 run to open the period and never looked back.
McM has seen its leading scorer –
Steven Jones – have three successive games well-below his team-leading scoring average of 15.8 points per game (down from nearly 18 p.p.g. a couple weeks ago). Jones took a hard spill early in the loss to TLU in Abilene and was still showing the effects in the War Hawks' recent setbacks.
Bryce Hill and
Jaden Isler are both averaging in double-figure scoring, as well. Hill checks in at 14.3 p.p.g., while Isler is at 13.0 p.p.g. Isler averages 6.0 assists per game, which ranks him among both the ASC and NCAA III leaders.
Dominick Walker has wrested the team's lead in rebounding at 9.8 boards per game. Jones is close behind at 9.0 r.p.g.
