McM Men Fall at No. 8 UMHB, 90-87

Box Score
BELTON, Texas – McMurry University, the only team to have beaten No. 8 ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this season, could not repeat the feat on the road, losing by a 90-87 score. The loss dropped the War Hawks to 15-8 overall and 11-8 in the American Southwest Conference.

While the two teams swapped baskets for most of the early going and kept matters close, the War Hawks looked on the verge of blowing things wide open when a trey by Jaden Isler gave McMurry a 10-point lead, 33-23, with6:21 left in the half.

However, a few moments later Steven Jones was called for a foul on the offensive end and was also assessed a technical foul. That seemed to turn the tide slightly in favor of the Crusaders (21-1, 18-1 ASC), who went on an 8-0 spree to cut the margin to 33-31.

McM was able to build its lead back up to five points by the intermission, 40-35.

The War Hawks found themselves down by five points, 63-58, midway through the second half. But McM refused to quit and when Isler hit a pair of free throws at 6:31 of the second period, McMurry had regained the upper hand, 70-69. A pair of free throws by Jones with 3:06 left put the War Hawks up by the, 78-75.

The Cru hung around and when Marlon Miller hit a right-side jumper, it put the hosts up 81-80 with a little over a minute left. It was a lead that UMBH would not relinquish.

The Cru hit nine-of-10 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

Five War Hawks finished in double figures, led by 15 points each from Bryce Hill and Jones. Dominick Walker had 13 points – hitting a perfect 6-of-6 from the field – and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Isler added 12 points and Bryant Taylor 11. Taylor gave off a game-leading five assists.
