War Hawk Gameday Link

Game Notes

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – McMurry University will play its first game in the Metroplex area since 1973 when it faces off against Southern Nazarene University on Saturday in a neutral-site game at the Gopher Warrior Bowl. Kickoff between the Crimson Storm (0-5) and War Hawks (2-2) is slated for 4 p.m.

The game can be heard locally on KZQQ 1560 AM in the Abilene area and worldwide via the War Hawk Radio network by going to: hprnetwork.com.  Live video streaming is also available free of charge through McMurry's channel on SkyboxLive.com.

The game will be the first-ever meeting between Southern Nazarene University and McMurry University on the football field. (Although, the two schools were formerly mates - in sports other than football – in the Texoma Athletic Conference in the 1970s).

McMurry has not had a game in the Metroplex since it lost to Bishop College (31-15) in 1973.

The Crimson Storm are looking for their first win of 2012, while the War Hawks are trying to win their third-straight game after an 0-2 start to the season.

Last week, SNU lost a tough defensive struggle, 17-14, to Langston University (a team that McM will be seeing on Oct. 27 in Abilene). After trailing 14-0, the Crimson Storm battled back to knot the game at 14-14 on back-to-back touchdown aerials from Dylan Terry to Sedrick Johnson. Langston's 37-yard field goal with 9:07 left to play was the difference.

McMurry is coming off of a 42-33 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State. The War Hawks led 28-6 at the half and then had to withstand a second-half rally by the Aggies. McMurry quarterback Jake Mullin had another outstanding day with his second-consecutive 400-plus yard passing effort. Mullin was 40-of-50 for 453 yards and five touchdowns. Greg Livingston caught two of Mullin's TD throws, with Paxton Grayer, Chris Simpson and Joshua Chatman getting the others.

Grayer also had a two-yard TD run in the win. Kicker Cory Foust was 6-for-6 in PATs.

In the second quarter of that game, Mullin surpassed the 10,000-yard mark in career passing. Additionally, his five TD passes made him McMurry's all-time leader with 98.

That sets the stage for what could be another magic moment in Mullin's McMurry career on Saturday. If the Burleson, Texas, native can throw two more touchdown passes, he would become just the 57th player in NCAA football history - at all levels (BCS, FCS, Division II and Division III) - to both pass for 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns in a career. He would join such names as Case Keenum, Colt McCoy, Ty Detmer, Chad Pennington, Danny Wuerffel and Steve McNair, to name a few, who have accomplished the feat!

Mullin would also be the third Hal Mumme protégé in the “Air Raid Offense” to join the coveted 10,000 passing yards/100 passing touchdowns football fraternity. Dustin DeWald (1989-91) did it for Mumme at Iowa Wesleyan University and Chris Hatcher (1992-94) made his mark while at Valdosta State.
