ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University swimming teams swept Austin College on Saturday afternoon at the Phillips Family Center. The War Hawk women topped the Kangaroos by a 115-61 score, while the men scored a 106-70 win.
The McMurry women's squad won eight of the eleven events on the day.
Erin Johnson and
Amber Perkins each won two individual events, while both were also a part of the War Hawks' winning 200 yard medley relay quartet (which posted a time of 1:58.75). Johnson took top honors in the 50 freestyle (25.64 seconds) and in the 100 butterfly (1:00.11).
Perkins bounced her Kangaroos competitors by taking first in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.42) and the 500 freestyle (5:48.38).
Other winners for McMurry were
Taylor Thomas in the 100 freestyle (57.28 seconds) and Alexandria Alstaettier in the 100 backstroke (1:02.86). Alstaettier also swam leadoff with the 200 medley relay and Thomas anchored the War Hawks' winning 200 yard freestyle relay.
The McMurry men won nine of 11 races.
Dalton Walker and
Nathan Worley were both multiple winners for the War Hawks. Walton grabbed first in both distance freestyle events, winning the 500 in a time of 5:16.69 and the 1000 in 10:58.25.
Worley sprinted through the 50 freestyle in 22.16 seconds and the 100 free in a time of 49.99 seconds. Worley anchored the War Hawks' winning 200 medley relay team.
Robert Sussmeier won the 200 individual medley (2:09.24) and
Ben Sherwood took top accolades in the 100 backstroke (58.50 seconds). McM's other individual winner was Matthew Perez in the 100 breast stroke (1:08.57).
Perez and Sherwood both swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team, as well.
For McMurry, the meet was also the home swansong for seven seniors- three women and four men. On the women's roster,
Natalie Colpitts, Johnson and Perkins made their final home appearance, while the men's team said good-bye to Perez, Sherwood, Sussmeier and Worley.
