BELTON, Texas – Tony Williams finished off the only three-set match on the singles court in a deciding match as the senior's 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win propelled McMurry University into the semi-finals round of the American Southwest Conference Tennis Championships Friday morning. The War Hawks defeated UT-Dallas by a score of 5-4 and will take on three-time defending ASC champion UT-Saturday at 9 a.m.

For the second-straight match, McMurry struggled on the doubles court with the Comets taking an 8-3 victory on the No. 1 court, and a 9-8 win on the No. 3 court. However, Chris Breaux and Daniel Olivares avoided the sweep for McMurry taking an 8-1 victory on the No. 2 court.

From there the War Hawks needed to take four of six matches on the singles court in order to keep their hopes alive of an ASC championship.

Chris Bumman put McMurry on the board first with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sebastien Leitz on the No. 1 court to even the score at 2-2. Then, Adam Ewing took a 6-0, 7-5 win over Wayne Chang on the No. 5 court to give McMurry the advantage at 3-2. Bryan Rainwater's 6-2, 6-3 win over Clint Laukhuf on the No. 3 court left McMurry needing just one match in the last three slots to move on.

However, the Comet's Bryan Leib and Antonio Alda each defeated their opponents for UT-Dallas to knot the score at four leaving it up to Williams.

Williams lost the first set and trailed 4-2 in the second before storming back to even the match at one set apiece with a 6-4 win in set two. Then, the senior from Port Lavaca, kept McMurry's season alive with a 6-2 victory in the deciding set and deciding match.

The Patriots enter the semi-finals with a 16-6 overall record while McMurry improved to 19-3 on the season. The War Hawks handed UT-Tyler a regular season loss Feb. 19 in a 6-3 win, and it was McMurry's first ever win over the Patriots in school history.

To advance to the finals, Saturday's winner will take on the winner of Mississippi College and Hardin-Simmons with both matches taking place simultaneously at 9 a.m.
