KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University won one see-saw battle with Schreiner University and lost the other as the Mountaineers took the series after Saturday's doubleheader split at Mountaineer Field.
Schreiner improved to 6-18 overall and 3-6 in the American Southwest Conference West Division while McMurry fell to 7-16 overall and 4-5 in league play. McMurry takes on Lubbock Christian on the road Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Game One: McMurry 11 Schreiner 10
McMurry University scored six runs in the first two innings and fought off Schreiner until the final inning to hold on for the victory Saturday to force a rubber match. The War Hawks kept the Mountaineers to one run in the bottom of the ninth inning and edged Schreiner 11-10.
Jake Mullin highlighted a five-run first for McMurry with a 3-run homer, his second long ball of the season giving the War Hawks a 5-0 run.
Andrew Bell sacrifice home a run in the second to make the lead six, but the Mountaineers countered with five runs in the bottom half of the second highlighted by Oscar Ibeita's 2-run double.
After a scoreless third inning, the two teams exchanged punches with each team scoring runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings. However, the War Hawks scored two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth while Schreiner combined for four runs in those three innings and McMurry led 11-9.
In the bottom of the seventh, Schreiner put the first two batters on base, and both moved to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by J.P. Garcia. However, from there, the Mountaineers were only able to score one run on a groundout and the War Hawks'
Deen Coleman picked up a two-inning save.
Logan edge was credited with the win for McMurry in relief of starter
Jordan Mattke who lasted just two innings. Ethan Catalini picked up the loss for the Mountaineers after recording only two outs in his start.
Game Two: Schreiner 19 McMurry 13
The Mountaineers built a 12-3 lead, fell behind 13-12, and then rallied to defeat McMurry 19-13 to take the series Saturday at Mountaineer Field. The two teams combined for 38 hits and used a total of 14 pitchers in the slugfest.
After a 10-run sixth inning for McMurry, which gave the War Hawks a one-run lead, Schreiner held McMurry scoreless the final three at bats while erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the victory.
Oscar Ibieta's two-run triple in the eighth broke the 13-all tie and the Mountaineers went on to add four more runs for a six-run cushion. McMurry got two base runners with one out in the top of the ninth, but the War Hawks ended the game on two consecutive flyouts.
Ibieta finished with five RBI's and a home run for Schreiner while Chris Whitehead also homered and drove in four. In the losing effort,
Jake Mullin,
Matt Thompson and
Clay Schubert drove in three runs apiece for McMurry while
Dylan De Leon drove in two. De Leon homered while Thompson tripled and added a pair of doubles.
Lonnie Garcia picked up the win in relief for the Mounaineers allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to close the game. Friday starter
Zack Hewitt surrendered five runs in a relief appearance for McMurry and picked up the loss.
