ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University used a second-half surge to improve to 4-1 in American Southwest Conference play Thursday night with a 92-71 win over East Texas Baptist at Kimbrell Arena.
Bryce Hill led McMurry with 17 points and
Jaden Isler's career-high 11 assists paced the War Hawks.
McMurry led just 35-34 at half, but put together a hot-shooting second half hitting six 3-pointers and made 57 percent of its second-period shots. The War Hawks strung together a 23-10 run from 16:00 to 8:31 that ended with back-to-back 3-point baskets by Hill. McMurry scored 57 points in the second half outrebounding ETBU 25-13. McMurry's bench knocked down 21 points in the second half.
The War Hawks jumped out to an early 10-2 lead with 4:36 into the first half capped off by a
Steven Jones jumper. With the game 19-8 in McMurry's favor, before the Tigers turned out 18-5 run to take a 26-24 lead with 4:15 remaining in the first half. McMurry took the lead with 1:19 remaining after one of Hill's five 3-point buckets.
McMurry shot an even 50 percent from the floor for the night hitting 9-17 from beyond the arch. The War Hawks outscored the Tigers by 20 points in the second half to take the 21-point victory. The War Hawks scored 46 points in the paint. Jones recorded 22 points and a game high 14 rebounds on the night. Isler added 13 points and six rebounds to his 11 assists. Hill helped run the offense gathering six assists in the contest.
Dominick Walker continued his presence around the glass recording eight boards on the night.
The War Hawks improved to 6-1 overall with a 4-1 ASC record and will play host to Centenary College at 3 p.m. Saturday. East Texas Baptist falls to 2-4 on the season and 2-3 in ASC play.
