McMurry off to best start since 1998-99 season with 84-73 win over the Ozarks

Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – McMurry University received the first test of the season coming from behind to win its fifth straight game over the University of the Ozarks 84-73 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night. Steven Jones led all scorers with 22 points in the contest going 9-11 from the floor.
 
Jaden Isler and Bryce Hill each added 18 points to aide in the McMurry victory. Isler just missed a triple double recording eight assist and 10 steals to go along with his 18 points. Dominick Walker recorded his third straight double-digit rebound night with 10 boards. Anthony Johnson and Jones hit the boards adding 8 and 7 rebounds respectively.
 
McMurry jumped out to an early two-point lead with 4:58 into the contest after Hill finished off a fast break with a layup, assist coming from Jones. The lead was short lived when the Eagles answered with a three-point bucket on the other end. Trailing by one with 4:27 left in the half, the War Hawks rallied to take a two-point lead at the half.
 
The War Hawks started the second half with a 6-2 run capped off by another Hill layup after an Isler steal less than two minutes into the game. McMurry's largest lead of the game came with 1:15 remaining following two Cameron Quinton foul shots extended the lead to 78-66. McMurry scored 14 points off of turnovers in the second half taking advantage of 13 Ozarks turnovers.  
 
McMurry's 5-0 record is the best start since the 1998-99 season when the team started the season 11-0. The Ozarks fall to 2-4 on the year and 0-3 in ASC action. McMurry continues its first road trip of the season against Texas-Dallas Saturday at 3 p.m. in Richardson. Texas-Dallas was picked to finish first in the ASC East Division preseason poll.
