War Hawks to play Hardin-Simmons in the crosstown showdown for the ASC West Division crown

ABILENE, Texas – The battle for the American Southwest Conference West Division crown comes down to the final home game of the year for McMurry University, as cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons University will travel the four-mile journey to Kimbrell Arena Wednesday at 7 p.m.  McMurry is seeking its first West Division crown since the 2002 season and second since 1996 and joining the ASC.

Each team comes into the contest carrying 15-2 ASC records; the winner of the match will receive a bye in the first round of the ASC Championship Volleyball Tournament that will be held November 3-5 at the Texas-Dallas Activity Center in Richardson.

Hardin-Simmons snapped the War Hawks 17 game-winning streak in the first meeting of the two teams earlier this season with a 3-1 victory. In the contest the Cowgirls carried a hitting percentage of .333 as a team led by Christine Sas who recorded 17 kills. McMurry's hitting percentage of .153 from the first meeting of the two teams was the second lowest of the War Hawks season. M.J. Vickers and Stephanie Henry each recorded 12 kills in the match.

Vickers has led a McMurry that carries a .251 team hitting percentage, recorded 321 kills, 311 digs, and hitting .299 as an individual. Bailey Marcum leads the team with 344 digs, and second on the team with 255 kills. Henry has recorded 234 kills hitting .288 on the season. The team carries a 25-2 overall record.

Kasi Conners is approaching the single season blocks record of 155 set by Lyndsay Llewellyn in the 2003 season. Conners has recorded 146 blocks on the season, giving her at least four more games to break the record, possibly more depending on how the team does in the ASC Tournament.

For Hardin-Simmons Madison Reyes and Sas drive the offense recorded 367 and 277 respectively. As a team the Cowgirls carries a .221 hitting percentage recording 12.89 kills per set. The team carries a 22-4 overall record.

The field for the ASC East Division has been set with UTD earning their sixth straight ASC East Division title. Mary Hardin Baylor is locked in at second place followed by Texas-Tyler locking up the third and final playoff spot.

In the West Division McMurry and Hardin-Simmons are followed by Concordia-Texas at 9-9 in ASC play and Texas Lutheran carrying a 9-7 conference record. Texas Lutheran will play two more games this weekend and will only need one victory to secure the third and final playoff spot for the West Division.
