War Hawks break school record with 3-0 win over Schreiner University

McMurry breaks school record for wins in a season moving to 24-2 on the year
KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University breaks school record with 24th win of the season in a 3-0 victory over American Southwest Conference opponent Schreiner University Friday night. McMurry breaks the previous school record of 23 wins was set in 2002 and 1997 moving to 24-2 on the season and 14-2 in conference action.
 
McMurry lead by freshman Stephanie Henry who recorded 12 kills on the night, carried a .288 hitting percentage in the contest. Senior Bailey Marcum and Junior Kasi Conners each added 10 kills. Conners recorded six blocks in the contest moving her to 135 blocks on the season. Conners block total ranks third all time in top season in McMurry's history
 
The War Hawks got stronger as the match went on carrying a .114 hitting percentage in the first match. Schreiner took the set into extra points with McMurry ultimately coming up on top 30-28. McMurry raised its hitting percentage in the second set, 25-19, victory to .241 as a team. The War Hawks made quick work of the Mountaineers in the third and final set, winning 25-12 while hitting .393 as a team.
 
Ashley Lyles led the Mountaineers offensively with 11 kills. The War Hawks held Schreiner to a hitting percentage of .008. The War Hawks only allowed a positive hitting percentage for the Mountaineers in the first set when they recorded 15 kills hitting .120. In set two Schreiner was held to a -.208 hitting percentage, and the McMurry defense held them to a game low -.105 hitting percentage in the third set.
 
The loss takes the Mountaineers to 6-20 on the season and 5-11 in ASC action.   McMurry will face Texas Lutheran Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Seguin. Texas Lutheran is currently fighting for the third and final spot for the ASC tournament.
