Late surge propels McMurry past Lady Eagles, 69-58

ABILENE, Texas- McMurry University's women held off a late run by the University of the Ozarks Eagles Thursday night at Kimbrell Arena to win the American Southwest Conference contest 69-58. Freshman Keshia Collins came off the bench and recorded the first double-double of her career with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead McMurry.

McMurry never trailed in the contest and built an 18-point lead in the second half. However, the Eagles made a late run when they climbed to bring the score within three points when Alison Villines scored with 2:02 left to play in the game to make the score 59-56. But, the home team closed on a 10-2 run in the last two minutes to seal the victory.

The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season dropping to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in league play. McMurry rebounded from Monday night's loss to UT-Tyler improving to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in ASC play.

McMurry outscored the Eagles off of the bench 42-18, and the team turned the Ozarks' 27 turnovers into 34 points.

Three players put up double-digit points with Andi Lukaszewski the high-scoring starter with 10 points. Off the bench M.J. Vickers added a career-high 10 points and nine rebounds. Collins finished 7 for15 from the floor with seven offensive rebounds, four assists and five steals.

McMurry will be in action again Saturday at 1 p.m. when they take on the Comets of the University of Texas at Dallas.
