McMurry University's volleyball team could have clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference postseason tournament this weekend. However, a split with a win over Concordia-Texas and a loss to Texas Lutheran means that McMurry must win its final two matches of the season Friday and Saturday at home to move on to the postseason.

Schreiner trails McMurry by 2.5 games in the ASC West Division standings. McMurry holds an 11-5 league record with two matches to spare while Schreiner has an 8-7 mark with three games this week.

If the Mountaineers were to beat Concordia-Texas Tuesday, then defeat McMurry Friday, Schreiner would still need to very unlikely things to happen to leapfrog McMurry to reach the postseason. First, McMurry would have to lose to Sul Ross State Saturday, and the Lobos have just a 1-22 record on the season entering into the weekend. If that were to happen, Schreiner would still have to knock off first-place Hardin-Simmons Saturday, and the Cowgirls enter the weekend with a 12-3 mark in league play.

If McMurry were to advance, it would mark the fourth-straight season that McMurry has reached the postseason.

Friday in Austin, McMurry swept the season series with Concordia-Texas by taking a 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the Tornados. Bailey Marcum had 12 kills while M.J. Vickers and Bennie Smith added 10 apiece. McMurry also played a strong defensive match with 12 team blocks led by Terah Brown's eight and Vickers' six.

Saturday in Seguin, McMurry hit just .155 as a team in a 3-1 loss to Texas Lutheran. TLU, the second-place team in the ASC West, took a 27-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18 win over McMurry led by Jessica Stetler's 21 kills. Stetler hit .217, added a double-double with 16 digs, and had support from Sarah Black who had 13 kills.

In the losing effort, McMurry had four players in double-digit kills with Marcum and Brown recording a dozen apiece, Smith had 11 and Vickers added 10. Vickers had 18 digs, Marcum had 15 and Sarah Anding led with 36 digs.

McMurry dropped to 14-9 overall and moved to 11-5 in conference play. TLU improved to 14-10 overall and 13-4 in league play.

McMurry plays Schreiner Friday night at Kimbrell Arena at 6 p.m. and closes the regular season with senior day against Sul Ross State Saturday at 11 a.m. The match with the Lobos was moved up due to staffing issues from Noon to 11 a.m.
