ALPINE, Texas - McMurry won its seventh-straight game thanks to outscoring Sul Ross State by 34 points in the first half and then cruising to a 77-50 victory over the Lobos at the Gallego Center Thursday evening.
Anna Berthel scored 13 points and
Kelsey Lindemuth added 10 points in the victory for McMurry.
The visitors scored the first eight points of the game and continued to dominate the Lady Lobos in the first half holding the home team to just a 5 of 24 shooting effort before halftime. In the second half, McMurry's starters were able to take most of the time off and let the reserves have a chance to play. Out of the five McMurry starters, Lindemuth played the most at 19 minutes. All 15 players on the McMurry roster played and 13 of the 15 scored points in the victory in the balanced offensive attack.
After shooting 48 percent in the first half, McMurry finished 39 percent for the game. The Lady Lobos had better luck against the McMurry bench in the second half and outscored the visitors 38-31 in the second frame.
Liz Pereyra scored 17 points in the losing effort for Sul Ross State while adding 12 rebounds for a double-double. McMurry forced the Lady Lobos into 16 first-half turnovers and the home team finished with 23 for the game.
Erica Rawls scored nine points,
Amanda Peters added eight and
Rikeita Thomas and
Hailey Stacy each had seven points apiece.
McMurry improved to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the American Southwest Conference while Sul Ross fell to 1-15 overall and 1-11 in league play. McMurry will face No. 25-ranked Howard Payne Saturday in Brownwood to go for eight-straight wins.
