Box Score HOUSTON- McMurry softball traveled to Houston to take on St. Thomas in a 3 game series to officially kick off their season.
The War Hawks battled in the series but were unable to come up victorious as they fell to St. Thomas in all 3 games.
Game 1- The first contest saw a lot of back and forth action between the two squads as the teams traded runs. St. Thomas took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before McMurry answered in the top of the second to tie the game up. St. Thomas would take the lead again in the 3
rd inning, but again the War Hawks would answer right back in the top of the 4
th with 3 runs. Â St. Thomas used a huge 5 run 6
th inning to give themselves just enough insurance to get the win by a score of 9-8 in game 1.
Game 2- In the second game of the series, McMurry struggled to get runs across the plate to keep up with St. Thomas offense. The contest was still close as the War Hawks defense was able to keep them within striking distance through the first 3 innings before St. Thomas opened it up with 3 runs in the 4
th and 5
th innings before the contest ended with a score of 10-2.
Game 3- Â The final game of the series was another tight battle as St. Thomas scored 3 runs in the opening frame but didn't score again after that. McMurry had their opportunities to put the game in reach but were unable to capitalize. The War Hawks defense was able to keep them in it the whole way before they ran out of innings and fell by a score of 4-0.

The War Hawks will be back in action next weekend as they take on Concordia on Friday & Saturday in Austin.
