KERRVILLE, TX – The McMurry War Hawks wrapped up their series against Schreiner and utilized a massive sixth-inning rally to secure a decisive 9-4 victory.
The War Hawks established control immediately, plating three runs in the top of the first inning.
Reaghan Staehely sparked the offense with a two-run double to center field, bringing home
Taylor McCurdy and
Kaelyn Rodriguez. Moments later,
Sophia Steele singled to center field, driving in Staehely after a defensive error, giving McMurry an early 3-0 lead.
McMurry added to their advantage in the top of the second inning.
Samantha Gonzalez executed a sacrifice groundout to the pitcher, which allowed McCurdy to score and extended the lead to 4-0. However, Schreiner responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on an RBI single and an outfield error to narrow the deficit to 4-2.
The Mountaineers continued to fight back, eventually tying the game in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI single to third base, followed by a sacrifice fly, evened the score at 4-4.
The game remained deadlocked until the top of the sixth inning when the McMurry offense erupted for five runs.
Alexis Martinez broke the tie with an RBI single to left field, scoring
Kami Owen. Gonzalez then delivered a clutch two-run single to center, bringing home Rodriguez and
Shaylee Rodmaker to make it 7-4. The rally concluded when Steele reached on an error by the left fielder, allowing both Gonzalez and McCurdy to cross the plate, sealing the game at 9-4.
On the mound,
Emmalee Gebhart started the game for McMurry, pitching 3.1 innings.
Sophia Garza took over in relief during the fourth inning and completely shut down the Schreiner lineup. Garza pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to secure the win.

McMurry finishes the regular season 20-19-1 overall and 15-15 in the SCAC and will now turn their attention to preparing for the SCAC tournament, which begins May 1st at Edwards Field.
