McMurry Softball starts opening day off with a pair of victories!

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 McMurry softball got to open their season up with a home match up against ST. Thomas.
 
Head Coach David McNally and the  War Hawks knew they would have their hands full falling to the St. Thomas Celts last year 0-1, 1-10.


For Game one, Senior Jenna Lewis was on the mound to open up the season for the War Hawks. Giving up a 2-run homerun in the first inning. The War Hawks found themselves playing from behind.
Jenna Lewis went the full 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 4 earned runs, and striking out 3.

The War Hawks battled back and found a way to tie it up in the bottom of the fourth. At 2-2 the game went into the fifth inning. Where the lady celts were able to take back two runs bringing the score 4-2.


The War Hawks were able to claw back tying the game once again. Jade Dickens was able to bat in two RBI'S. Reaghan Staehely and Miranda Soileau were also able to help the team with an RBI.
Holding the Celts scoreless in the top of the 6th inning the War Hawks came back up to bat. They were able to bring in 3 runs giving them a lead of 7-4.

The War Hawks were able to hold off the lady celts in the top of the 7th for a 7-4 victory. Jenna Lewis was awarded her first win of the season.

Following game 1, there was a 30-minute break before the next game.

On the Mound for the War Hawks was Baylee Fulps. Baylee went all 7 innings throwing 73 pitches. Giving up 5 hits and tallying one strikeout. She was also awarded her first win of the season.


The game went back and forth in a closely contested game. With Both the Celts and the War Hawks leaving runners on bases.

The defenses were on full display for game 2 with a defensive play by center fielder Mercedes Camacho making a game saving play on a hard-hit line drive.
Miranda Soileau and Baylee Fulps also putting strong defensive outings keeping the Celts from getting anything going.

It wasn't until the sixth inning until the War Hawks were able to get the bases loaded with 0 outs and go to work. Failing to score on a sac bunt, where the first baseman made was able to make a good defensive play forcing the out at home. First baseman Trista Brown then came up to bat hitting a deep sac fly into center scoring shortstop Morgan Faubion.

The War Hawks were able to hold off the celts in the top of the 7th earning a 1-0 victory in game 2.

The War Hawks game against Schreiner scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to a later date. Putting the next time they return to action February 23rd against Southwestern in Georgetown, TX
