Box Score McMurry University's Lady War Hawks, making their first postseason appearance since 2019, lost 66-53 to East Texas Baptist University Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Kimbrell Arena.
Coach Drew Long's team entered the American Southwest Conference tournament first-round game as the fourth seed while the opponent was the fifth. Previously, McMurry beat ETBU in Marshall while ETBU defeated McMurry in Abilene.
On Tuesday, junior guard/forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) led the way with 12 points, followed by sophomore guard Kylie Flippin (Wichita Falls, Texas) and sophomore guard Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) with 11 each.
The Lady War Hawks connected on seven three-pointers with two from Chadwick and one apiece from junior post Ashton Garner (Odessa, Texas), junior post Katie Hale (Decatur, Texas), freshman wing Gracie Garcia (The Woodlands, Texas), Holland and Flippin. At the free-throw line, Flippin was 6 of 6, Holland was 5 of 6, Chadwick was 3 of 6, and sophomore forward/center Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas) and Garcia were both 2 of 2. Holland was the top rebounder with six, one on offense and five on defense.
Cleveland and Holland each had three steals, and Hale and Flippin had one apiece. Cleveland, Hale, and Garcia each blocked a shot, and Garner attempted to block one.
McMurry and the opponent played neck-and-neck early with the opponent only leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. The opponent led 33-23 at halftime. McMurry was outscored 33-30 in the second half.
The Lady War Hawks finished the season with a 16-10 record.
This was McMurry's last ASC basketball game as it will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference starting this fall.
McMurry Women's basketball team was able to break many school records and program highs.
