Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABILENE, TEXAS – The number two doubles pairing of junior Bridgette Fly (Wautaga, Texas) and freshman Jenna Vincent (San Angelo, Texas) headlined action for McMurry University Friday, Feb. 24.
 
The duo took an 8-1 victory to pick up a team point for the War Hawks against East Texas Baptist University at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. Head coach Chris Breaux's team dropped to 3-3 overall with an 8-1 loss at the hands of the Tigers. The final could have been much closer, as Vincent had a first-set victory at number three singles before being foiled in three, senior Hope Turner (Wills Point, Texas) nearly captured set one, falling 7-6 in a tiebreaker at number one, and sophomore McKenzie Carroll pushed her singles match to a tiebreaker at number four.
 
Close calls were the story of the day for McMurry's men. In the wake of a 9-0 loss to unbeaten ETBU, Breaux's bunch was on the verge of tipping the scales at several spots. Seniors Reid Smith (Pampa, Texas) and Jason Cabe (Brownfield, Texas) each took their singles opponents to a deciding third set. In doubles play, the number one tandem of Smith and freshman Nicholas Villalovos (Hereford, Texas) and the number three pairing of Cabe and senior Dylan Bryant (Ovalo, Texas) each claimed five game victories.
 
The weekend home stand for the Maroon and Black continues Saturday, Feb. 25. LeTourneau University visits for a 9 a.m. start.
