ABILENE, TX — McMurry University has named
Aleah Cassmeyer as the inaugural head coach of its new women's gymnastics program. Women's gymnastics at McMurry, along with the men's team, will begin its first competitive season in the fall of 2027.
Cassmeyer comes to Abilene from Long Island University, where she served as the Assistant Gymnastics Coach and Recruiting Coordinator starting in August 2025. With the LIU Sharks, she acted as the primary coach for vault and beam, directed athlete development, and managed team travel operations. During her tenure, Cassmeyer helped lead the program to its highest finish and team score in EAGL Championship history, as well as a program-best national ranking of No. 54. She also played a leadership role in hosting the EAGL Conference Championship.
"I would like to welcome Aleah to the McMurry family and back to her home state of Texas. She is the perfect person to start the women's gymnastics program because of her ties to the area and her experience as a young, talented coach. I'm excited to see where she will take the program and look forward to watching her build her own team," said Athletic Director
Susan Decker.
Prior to her time at LIU, Cassmeyer was an Assistant Gymnastics Coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from August 2023 to July 2025. While serving as the primary coach for vault and bars, she contributed to three consecutive NCGA National Championship titles and five consecutive WIAC Conference Championships. Under her guidance, UW-Oshkosh gymnasts secured individual national championships on vault and bars in 2024, and the vault program achieved a school-record team score of 48.725.
"I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the McMurry Women's Gymnastics program. Building a program in Texas from the ground up is an opportunity and challenge that is truly a dream, and I want to thank Athletic Director
Susan Decker for her support and for trusting me with this program. I can feel the energy and excitement from the community here already and can't wait to bring college gymnastics to Abilene!" said Cassmeyer.
As a collegiate student-athlete at Lindenwood University, Cassmeyer was a four-time Midwest Independent Conference Champion and a 2021 USAG first-team All-American on the vault. She recorded a career-high vault score of 9.85 and helped her team qualify for the NCAA Regionals in 2019.
Cassmeyer earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Lindenwood University in May 2021. She subsequently completed a Master of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation from Logan University in April 2023.
