GREENSBORO, N.C. – McMurry University had six runners compete in the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Thursday at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
The War Hawks competed in three prelim events during the first day – the men's 4x100 relay, the men's 200 meter dash and the men's 4x400 relay.
McMurry's day started with the 4x100. The team of Caleb Kwiatkowski, Jamari Williams, Jayden Sloan and Dazhaun Walton finished with a time of 42.39 for 14th place.
Walton later competed in the men's 200 meter dash prelims in the third heat and finished 11th overall with a time of 21.68. Fellow American Southwest Conference member Kelton Kemp was also in the third heat and finished right behind Walton in 12th at 21.72.
The day ended with an exciting 4x400 relay, as the team of Jacob Williams, Walton, Sloan and Michael Limones finished third in their heat in the unofficial results. It was later determined via replay that one of McMurry's runners took at least two steps inside the line, resulting in a disqualification.
The War Hawks will wrap up prelims on Friday at 2:15 p.m. CST as Sloan runs the 400 meter dash. If he qualifies, the finals are scheduled for Saturday at 12:20 p.m. CST
